Last week Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced a major corporate rebrand of the company, now called Meta. This new name is meant to solidify the social media giant’s long-term bet on building the Metaverse.
This whole Metaverse concept has an immersive idea behind it: it will be a 3D version of the internet and more.
“The magnitude of technological shifts that we are trying to manifest here hasn’t been attempted in a long time” Andrew Bosworth, new CTO of Meta.
The company is going more broadly on it, with the idea of integrating real and digital worlds ever more seamlessly, using technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). By doing so, it is planning to change the names of its products with Meta: Oculus Quest will soon become Meta Quest, as well as Portal is going to be called Meta Portal.
Microsoft Teams is now entering the Metaverse race with 3D avatars and immersive meetings, as well as many other companies after Zuckerberg’s announcement during the Connect.
Our Road to the Metaverse continues: Invrsion is still working in order to make a significant impact in the VR world and in the way people perceive it.
